Savi signed a four-year contract with Manchester City for £6 million on July 6, 2011. On 15 August, he made his debut as a substitute against Swansea City at the City of Manchester Stadium. On 1 October, he came off the bench and scored his first goal for the club in a 4-0 win away to Blackburn Rovers, heading in the decisive goal from Samir Nasri’s corner.

During Vincent Kompany’s four-match suspension from 11 to 25 January, Savi started in his place, with third-choice Kolo Touré away on international duty with the Ivory Coast in the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.

Although Savi displayed brief flashes of form during this period, he also displayed many instances of nervousness, resulting in frequent misplaced passes, clearances, and, crucially, conceding a penalty against Liverpool in a League Cup match, which resulted in a Liverpool win.
